What you need to know before buying a Dishwasher?

Study the Size

Dishwashers are actually really good at saving both water and electricity! They can save up to 40 liters of water per cycle and use as little as 300 kWh per year! However, it is important that you consider your options. Ideally, look for a dishwasher that uses less than 25 liters of water and consumes no more than 300 kWh of power a year. A 3-4 star rating covers both these criteria.

Seen not heard

All dishwasher models have sound ratings that allow you to predict what type of noise level they produce. Here’s a reference to what you should look for.

1. 50 Decibels: A little noisy, they’re as loud as your normal everyday conversation. It’s loud enough to make you want to speak a little louder but soft enough to stay within your kitchen.
2. 40 Decibels: These models can be heard but are bearable enough to be ignored, though you can drown it out with some music.
3. 30 Decibels: Whisper-quiet models are the best. These dishwashers are so quiet you’ll barely even hear them running when you’re in the kitchen.

Essential Features

Depending on the brand and your budget, there are loads of extra features to choose from. As is the rule, the more your budget the better choice of added features. Look at all the available options before you choose.

1. Cycle Selection: Check for the number of cycle options you get. Some utensils require a different mode of cleaning, like plastic takes longer than steel but steel is less heat resistant.
2. Water Filtration: This is a handy feature to ensure you don’t find icky particles after the second or third cycle of the day. A filtration system traps and removes those icky remains easily.
3. Extra Rack: A necessary requirement on those days after you’ve hosted guests. In the event where you live in a joint family with over 4 members, this feature will be your saving grace.
4. Special Zones: This feature ensures that your utensils are thoroughly washed to the last unreachable corner. Like the underside of your mixer’s blades, or your multi-purpose chopper’s blades as a reference.
